What is the Yūzen Harmony Tray?

The Yūzen Harmony Tray celebrates the enduring beauty of Japanese lacquerware through the delicate lens of Yūzen Chiyogami (友禅千代紙), a traditional decorative paper known for intricate designs and symbolic motifs.

Using urushiome’s proprietary layering technique, each sheet of chiyogami is carefully embedded beneath urushi lacquer, preserving its elegance while enhancing its depth. The result: a glossy, glass-like finish that protects and elevates every detail.

This fusion of papermaking and lacquer art transforms each tray into a functional canvas — refined, radiant, and distinctly Japanese.

Why You'll Love It

Authentic Yūzen Chiyogami Patterns

  • Each pattern is drawn from centuries of Japanese paper artistry, symbolizing harmony, nature, and timeless refinement. Your tray is more than décor — it’s a quiet statement of cultural elegance.

Radiant Lacquer and Gold Leaf (Kinpaku) Finish

  • Hand-applied layers of natural urushi lacquer enhance the vibrancy of the chiyogami, while subtle gold-leaf accents (kinpaku 金箔) add dimension, brilliance, and a hint of luxury.

Crafted Just for You

  • Each tray is made to order and crafted with precision, ensuring your piece is freshly produced, uniquely yours, and of heirloom quality.

Two Signature Designs

Choose from two timeless patterns:

  • Sakura Fubuki (桜吹雪): A poetic flurry of cherry blossoms, symbolizing spring’s fleeting beauty.
  • Utage (宴): A vibrant, festive motif inspired by traditional Japanese gatherings and celebration.

Each design is carefully matched with kinpaku accents for a layered, artistic finish.

Colors That Inspire

  • Shikkoku Jet Black (漆黒): Sleek, bold contrast to gold
  • Momiji Red (紅葉朱): Autumnal warmth in vibrant vermillion
  • Shirayuki White Snow (白雪): Serene, snowy minimalism

All finishes are selected to enhance the embedded motif and elevate your space.

Guided by Vision, Rooted in Craft

Architectural Elegance

漆重 (urushiome) is shaped by the vision of Michio Fujinami (藤波美知男)—a renowned Japanese architect whose works span over 150 projects across Asia. With deep reverence for Japanese aesthetics, he brings a design philosophy that fuses architectural discipline with timeless beauty, guiding each urushiome creation with clarity and intention.

More Than Furniture. A Legacy.

Why urushiome

urushiome creates functional art rooted in Japan’s lacquer tradition. Every tray, table, and sculpture carries the quiet soul of urushi and Japanese heritage—designed to bring presence, depth, and refinement into everyday life. Each piece is built to age gracefully, inviting you to live with something meaningful.

Heritage, Reimagined

Crafted Tradition

Our designs draw from centuries of urushi lacquerware and classical forms, then reinterpreted with contemporary lines and quiet elegance. urushiome's signature aesthetic reflects restraint, harmony, and the Japanese ideal of shibui—subtle beauty that reveals itself over time.

The Art of Urushi

Natural Lacquer

Each piece is coated with genuine urushi (漆)—Japan’s oldest artistic material. Sustainably harvested, layered by hand, and polished to a luminous depth, urushi is more than a finish: it is a living surface that glows with age, use, and presence.

Handcrafted. Layer by Layer.

Artisanal Process

Every KOSEI piece is shaped through meticulous, hand-layered craftsmanship. Dozens of urushi layers are applied, cured, and polished by artisans, revealing a depth and luster impossible to replicate. These are future heirlooms, created with care and soul.

Cultural Finishes, Timeless Details

Signature Embellishments

Our pieces are adorned with finishing touches drawn from Japanese cultural traditions—gold-leaf momiji, maki-e (蒔絵) designs, and Yūzen (友禅) inlays. Each element is placed with precision, telling a story through subtle contrast and visual harmony.
